MA05 comprises a two-storey steel-framed data centre constructed within an existing warehouse and with an external ancillary plant.

The scheme was designed to facilitate the infrastructure for the Phase 2 future fit-out works. Phase 1 consists of four data halls with two situated on each floor, and the full fitout of the front-of-house, back-of-house and mezzanine plant room spaces. The external areas consist of a two-storey generator gantry, a single-storey 33kv substation, three sprinkler tanks and a chiller gantry.

Engineering behind the delivery

Due to the number of modules being installed, digital engineering was utilised through 3D modelling to identify possible clash detection points, which was beneficial during activities such as the installation of new busbar routes. Such modelling was completed within a specific design workshop in attendance of all the project team. This improved coordination, increased certainty for decision making, boosted productivity rates through using data and increased the quality of handover records used whilst managing the facility.

Delivery milestones were initially planned at the start of the project, enabling the strict coordination and scheduling of activities to be identified in advance. This encouraged the successful delivery of MA05 on time through maintaining control and achieving milestones.
